In addition to being Professor and Chair of Political Communication and Scientific Director of The Amsterdam School of Communications Research ASCoR in the Department of Communication Science at the University of Amsterdam, I am Director of NESCoR, the Netherlands School of Communications Research, the national research school in communication science. My research interests include comparative journalism research, the effects of news, public opinion and European integration, effects of information and campaigning on elections, referendums and direct democracy. The Amsterdam School of Communications Research ASCoR, is a research institute in Communication Science, residing in the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences of the University of Amsterdam. It is the largest research institute of its kind in Europe and is among the largest worldwide. ASCoR figures prominently in both national and international academic communities: it coordinates the national communications research school; it attracts a high share of funding from the Dutch national science foundation (NWO); its scholars make their research public at prominent international conferences, in journals and in book form.
